Phuket International Academy (PIA) Standard for Human Development

The Phuket International Academy (PIA) is a pioneering sports, education, arts and wellness facility located in Phuket, Thailand.   It comprises three synergistic  centres: the PIA Day School, the PIA Sports, Arts and Wellness Centre and the PIA Mind Centre.  They offer students, parents and people from all over Phuket, and international communities, a state of the art, sustainable facility with focus on education, sports, arts and wellness.  Located on the resort island of Phuket, Thailand, PIA is sited in an area of natural beauty next to a national park. The Phuket International Academy Day School (PIADS) is working to become a three programme International Baccalaureate (IB) World School.  As a pioneering international school in Thailand, it will incorporate the uniqueness of Asian culture with the best from Western educational methods, developing inquisitive, informed, and compassionate young people who know how to live with honor, cultivate genuine happiness, and who work toward a more peaceful and sustainable world.   The Phuket International Academy Day School has excellent facilities, teachers, trainers, staff and administration.

Phuket International Academy Sports and Leisure Club (PIASLC) is partially constructed, and will soon start to deliver a diverse of world-class sports, arts, wellness and recreational facilities and programmes for the enjoyment of students, their families, the local Phuket community and for visiting professional and amateur individual athletes and teams from around the glove.  PIASLC will establish a benchmark as a regional hub for sports, arts and wellness in Thailand and Asia, and perhaps the world.

Phuket International Academy Mind Centre (PIAMC) is currently under construction and will shortly begin to offer training in the cultivation of cognitive and emotional balance.   The PIAMC will  offer  a blend of contemporary psychology and neuroscience alongside ancient Asian contemplative practices.  Featuring openess, the PIAMC conducts retreats and seminars.  Working in close relation with the Phuket International Academy Day School and the PIA Sports and Leisure Club, the programmes offered through PIAMC will contribute to participant’s better mental balance and wellbeing.  April 10th marks the launch of the PIA Mind Centre (PIAMC) with a weekend “Genuine Happiness Retreat” led by Dr. B Alan Wallace.  The retreat focuses on two methods for cultivating meditative quiescence called shamatha.  It teaches the practice of “mindfulness of breathing”, which is helpful technique for relaxing the body and calming the mind. A second method taught is both a shamatha practice and vipashyana, “insight meditation” also referred to as “settling the mind in its natural state”.

Phuket International Academy is an integrated facility hosting Phuket’s newest International School, a multi-faceted Sports and Leisure Club for elite athletes, amateur enthusiasts, artists and wellness seekers – all within the Mind Centre sanctuary that provides training in the cultivation of mental and emotional equilibrium.
