by Amy Nutt

Sunglasses, also commonly referred to as “shades” are dark tinted glasses used to help protect your eyes from harmful UV rays and help facilitate your vision in bright sunlight. Many people use sunglasses when outside in the sun, whether they are driving, bicycling, walking, jogging or lounging at the beach. Nowadays, there are thousands of styles, colors and brands of shades to choose from. If you are shopping for a new pair, make sure you verify that they provide adequate UV ray protection for your eyes.

Sunglasses are also viewed as an accessory, and many people use them as a fashion statement to accent their personal style. Many fashion designers, from the everyday to the high-end style houses also design sunglasses under their respective brands. It is not uncommon to see designer sunglasses on celebrities, socialites, or even average people walking around on the street.

Designer shades can accent your personal style and protect your eyes from the sun. Popular brand names include Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, Gucci, Prada, Chanel and Hermes among others. Prices for these fashion statements can range anywhere from $50 to thousands of dollars. Whether you spend only fifty dollars or over five hundred dollars, your designer sunglasses are an investment that you will want to protect.

Protect Your Investment In order to protect your shades properly, you must take care not to let them get any scratches on the lenses or the surface of the frames. To do this, make sure you only place them on soft surfaces. If a case is not included in your purchase, invest in a hard case that snaps shut where you can store your sunglasses when you arent using them. Also, make sure you learn how to clean your sunglasses properly and carefully. The guide below will help you.

Clean Your Sunglasses The first step to keeping your sunglasses clean is to make sure they are properly stored when you are not wearing them. If you leave your designer glasses on a table or shelf, they are likely to need more frequent cleaning as they will gather dust there. If you toss your shades into your purse without properly storing them in a case, they are likely to gather dust and debris as well. Keeping your glasses in a case will help prevent the need for frequent cleanings, thus keeping them new-looking and scratch-free.

When it is time to clean your designer shades, make sure you use clean water and a bit of soap. Even using just water is okay, but do not, under any circumstances, wipe your designer sunglasses down when they are dry. Wiping your shades without at least moistening them first can cause scratches and damage to your lenses or frames.

Make sure you are not using a regular towel, tissue or cloth when cleaning your sunglasses. Coming into contact with the wrong type of textile can easily scratch or damage your expensive shades. Instead, use a very soft cotton cloth, such as a chamois, in order to protect your glasses. Another option is to invest in a soft optical cloth to clean your glasses safely and properly.

These days, sunglass care and cleaning kits are available at eyewear boutiques or department stores. Try asking the retailer that sold you your sunglasses if they sell any such kits. Generally a sunglasses cleaning kit will include a small bottle of cleaning solution that is safe and effective for use on expensive shades, a soft cloth made of cotton or microfiber, and a carrying case. If the kits sold at your local retailer seem pricey, simply shop around online for a better deal.

by Amy Nutt

Whether you are a new contact lens wearer or you have been using them for years to correct your vision, you may be wondering how can you tell if a contact lens is inside out. If you suspect you may be wearing your contact lenses incorrectly or they just feel uncomfortable, here are some ways you can determine this to avoid the problem in the future.

Look at the Lens

Before placing the lens in your eye, hold it on the tip of your index finger and look at it carefully from the side. Is it shaped like the letter “U” or it is flared on the sides, like a soup bowl? The correct shape of a soft contact lens should be like the letter “U”. If its shaped like a soup bowl, then its inside out. Some people also recommend the “taco test” whereby you gently squeeze the lens so that the edges touch. If they touch completely, then the lens is right side out. If the edges flare out and dont touch fully, then its inside out. Simply flip the lens around and it will be positioned correctly for wearing.

Another way to determine if your contact lens is right side out is to look at it from the top. This is especially important if you are wearing the colored enhanced type. The edge of a tinted lens will be look very blue. If it looks greenish, then it is inverted and you should carefully flip the lens around in order to wear it properly.

Find the Engraving

Some contact lenses have factory engraving on them, done by special lasers. This can include the manufacturer information, model number, brand name or grade of materials used. While this is not detected by the human eye when wearing, it can be of help when trying to determine if you are wearing your contact lenses correctly. Some brands have a “1-2-3″ engraved on them, so you would make sure this is the side facing downwards on your finger as you place the contact into your eye. If you can read this label, then the lens is inside out. You can remove it safely without damaging your eyes and flip it around for replacement.

Ask the Professional

Of course, please check with your eye doctor if you experience any discomfort with your contacts. They can often help you more with this perplexing problem or demonstrate to you further what to do. Common sense should tell you if you are wearing your contact lens incorrectly. If they feel uncomfortable or you feel slight pressure on your eyes, its probably because you have placed the lenses incorrectly on your eyes. You may want to practice a little when first getting a new set of contact lenses to see what works best for you and to get used to the feel of them. Once you do, you should enjoy months of enjoyable experience with your new lenses.

A daily care routine is an essential part of owning Acuvue Oasys contact lenses. There are a few basic care needs that one should be aware before using these contact lenses. If you are unable to follow a routine, unable to insert and remove the lenses, or have another person insert and remove the lenses, then it would be wise to rethink the need or desire for contact lenses. If you are great at a routine then there are a few basics you will need to follow.

Before you go home for the first time with contact lenses, make sure you insert and remove them while you are still at the Optometrist or eye care specialists office as this will help clear up any questions. Before handling the lenses make sure your hands are washed and dried thoroughly. A common mistake that can be made is putting the lens in your mouth to lubricate or moisten it, or using tap water to clean or moisten the lens. Unfortunately, this could lead to accidentally swallowing the lens or dropping it into the sink drain. Also, tap water contains impurities that can contaminate the lens or could lead to eye infections, possibly even injuring the eye.

The first time you purchase a pair of lenses, be sure to get a recommended cleaning and disinfection routine as well as instructions about care, handling, and cleaning. The eye care specialist will be able to teach you about proper care procedures and will suggest the best products to use for the type of lenses you have. When you remove your lenses, they must be cleaned and disinfected before you put them back in your eyes.

In order to continue safe and comfortable wear of the lenses, it is important that you first clean, rinse, and disinfect your lenses after each removal. Be sure to do this by using the lens care products and procedures that have been originally recommended by your eye care specialist. Ideally, it is best to form the habit of cleaning of the lenses as soon as they are removed from your eyes. Cleaning and rinsing are needed to remove mucus, secretions, films and protein deposits that may have built up on your lenses during wear.

Always follow the set routine and use the recommended products to avoid any serious eye problems. If you wish to change products for some reason, it is highly recommended to consult with your eye care specialist about the product before doing so. There may be many reasons why you should not or cannot safely use the new product. Also, keep track of expiry dates on lenses and all the lens care products. Do not mix lens care systems with other products because not all products will be compatible with others.

Basic Cleaning Rules

- Always clean the same lens first to avoid mix-ups when the time comes to insert them again. – Always follow the instructions provided on the cleaning solution label and from the eye care specialist. – After the cleaning is completed, rinse the lens with the recommended rinsing solution to remove the cleaning solution as well as any mucus and film from the lens surface. – Once the process is completed, put the lens into the correct chamber of your lens storage case.

Disinfecting

- After the cleaning is completed, disinfect the lenses using the system recommended by your eye care specialist, following the instructions given and /or written on the product label. – When using hydrogen peroxide lens care systems, the lenses must first be neutralized before wearing. – Be sure to thoroughly rinse the lenses with a fresh solution before inserting and wearing your lenses. Take caution with lenses that are chemically disinfected, as they could absorb ingredients found in the solution. These chemicals could irritate the eye, so to avoid this, thoroughly rinse the lenses in a fresh and sterile saline solution just before inserting the lens in the eye.

Proper care of your Acuvue Oasys contact lens is a necessary responsibility. Cleaning is an important part of lens care. Improper cleaning can eventually ruin the lenses. To maintain fresh lenses, they must be cleaned, rinsed, and disinfected daily.

Acuvue is a leader in the contact lens industry for a number of reasons. Chief among them is their innovative approach to contact lenses themselves. The number one brand prescribed by doctors, these fantastic contact lenses has the highest UV protection rating of all major brands. In fact, many Acuvue lines have up to 97% UV-A and UV-B protection, something a lot of contact lens makers do not offer.

They also have a 1-2-3 inside out marker so you can tell if you a putting your contacts on correctly. Clear contacts even come with a visibility tint so they can easily be found in your contact lens solution.

With all these innovations, the outstanding lens manufacturer sets to outdo itself with great products that can suit every need and lifestyle. Their most popular brand lines include:

OASYS with Hydraclear Plus – Made for nearsighted or far sighted individuals, OYASYS with Hydraclear plus can be changed out every two weeks or worn for six consecutive days. The greatest advantage of these contact lenses is that they are extremely comfortable and lightweight. Many wearers feel they are not wearing contacts at all. OASYS with Hydraclear plus also comes in an advance formula that includes a moisture rich technology that keeps eyes from feeling too dried out during wear.

OASYS for astigmatism – OASYS for astigmatism was specifically designed for people who have the common corneal malformation. These contacts are specially shaped so that they stay stable in the eye, something that is essential for people with this particular vision problem. Like the Hydraclear plus brand, the contacts can be worn for 2 weeks or 6 consecutive days. This also comes in the moisture rich advance formula for those who have problems with dry eyes.

2-Colors brand – Cosmetic contact lenses have never been more comfortable or vibrant with Acuvues 2-Colors brand. The ten marvelous shades offered can be ordered with a near sighted or far sighted prescription or sans vision correction. Like all of the fabulous lenses under this manufacturer, color contacts can be worn for 2 weeks or 6 consecutive days. Perfect if you are looking for a dramatic change in your appearance.

Bifocal lenses – finally there is help for individuals who suffer from a combination of both near and far sightedness with lenses specifically created for people with presbyopia. This brand contact lens utilizes five concentric cones that are not visible to the naked eye. These cones help establish clear vision that can see both near and far. Bifocal lenses have all the same advantages as other Acuvue brands in regards to wearability and comfort.

1-Day lenses – for people who dont wish to bother with daily upkeep, there are 1- Day contact lenses. Use them once, toss them away and pop in a fresh pair every day! 1- Day lenses moisture rich come in a patented LACREON technology to keep moisture in the eye during all day wear. There is little to no need for constant re-wetting with drops. You can also get 1-Day lenses that are devoid of this technology. Both 1- Day brands should be disposed of the following day to be replaced by a fresh pack of lenses.

Now that you realize the many choices that you have with Acuvue brand contact lenses you can rest assured that you will find a pair of lenses that will best suit your vision correction needs! Before you decide on what kind of contact lenses you should buy be sure to discuss all of these options with your eye doctor so you can make an informed and decision that will keep you and your eyes happy for years to come.

In early times, sunglasses were barely useful for the purpose of keeping out the brightness of the sun. Bits of smoked quartz held by hand, and then later held to the face by a crude frame, they were hardly the practical fashion accessory that they have become today. Yet with the invention of the polarized lens, by Edwin H. Land, sunglasses went from keeping out the sun to keeping our eyesight healthy by blocking out harmful UV rays. To understand what a polarized lens is, we need to understand how polarized sunglasses work.

In the 1930s the Army Air Corp approached a well known company, Bausch and Lomb, to research and develop an anti-glare style sunglasses for pilots. They came up with a design that made the frame slightly droop to maximize shielding of the pilots eyes. Then they incorporated a dark green tint which would absorb the yellow band of the light spectrum. The dark green tint filters and diffuses the concentrated light waves, which eliminates 99% of reflecting glare. The end result is a reduction of annoying and /or dangerous glare.

The way in which the polarized lens works to assist your sight is that it blocks the horizontally polarized light from a surface with a vertically oriented polarizer that is integrated into the lens. Surfaces such as still water, flat pavement, or even glass and shiny metals can reflect a large amount of light into the eyes which makes it difficult to focus properly on the surface and the items around it. This can cause a person to be distracted or even not see items that become hidden behind the bright light. Using polarized sunglasses removes the glare by bouncing it off your sunglasses allowing you to actually see through the glare.

Sometimes polarized lenses may react poorly with LCD (liquid crystal display) lighting commonly found in car dashboards or on bank machine displays at automated tellers. In fact, depending on the angle of the screen display, the LCD display can become almost invisible. This is of course is something that needs to be explored before sitting behind the wheel of your car.

Polarized sunglasses are no longer just for pilots or drivers. They are now part of an ever growing group of sports enthusiasts for many types of sports events including many outdoor winter activities such as skiing. However, polarized lenses sometimes do not work well on reflective snow surfaces, so be sure to try out the sunglasses you plan to use for your outdoor snow day activities.

A Test for Polarized Lenses

If you wish to test your sunglasses to make sure they are actually polarized, find a surface that is reflecting a large amount of light such as a still lake on a sunny day. Find the brightest or most reflective part of the lakes surface, and then put on your polarized sunglasses and look at the same area of the lake. While looking at the spot, turn your head to the right and left observing any differences. If you see that the lens gets light and then dark or, that there is a significant reduction in the glare, you have confirmed that your sunglasses are polarized.

There are also polarized photo-chromic lenses now on the market that are capable of changing the amount of light they let in. This is a great asset for people who are frequently in and out of shaded areas or in and out of buildings during the course of the day.

With the increased health risks associated with UV rays, polarized sunglasses are a healthy choice for everyone.

The wearing of sunglasses has become as popular and as common as wearing such articles of clothing as hats, ties, and gloves. Sunglasses are often considered a necessity more than an accessory. Centuries ago they were worn only by the rich and even into the early 1900s only those of fame and fortune were seen wearing these special spectacles.

Tales of “sun cheaters”, among other unusual names, were spoken of back in the time of the Roman Empire, when the Emperor would cover his eyes with bits of emerald to help shade the sun from his vision. Obviously the efforts that were utilized diminished the sun but did not protect the eyes from harmful rays. They actually lessened the clarity of what people were viewing.

Sometime in 12th Century China, the first sunglasses were a crude slab of smoked quartz that was made for only the very rich. The quartz slab soon progressed to a slab with a roughly shaped frame to help hold the quartz to the users face. Not only were these handy items used to block out the sun but they were also used to hide emotions from others when speaking with them. This was particularly handy for judges of that time, giving them an air of detachment from the topic being discussed as well as keeping their feelings hidden while questioning the accused.

As time went on, so did the progression of the appearance of sunglasses. Circa 1400, sunglasses were darkened and introduced into Italy via the Chinese. In the 18th century a man named James Ayscough was experimenting with sunglasses but not to help keep out the suns rays but to help with improving vision for those with poor or failing eye sight. He believed that by changing the color of the lenses to a blue/green tint, he could help correct certain vision conditions.

But sunglasses did not become popular until the early 1920s, when the stars and starlets of Hollywood began using them to shield their eyes from the stage lights and the cameras blinding flashbulbs. Mass production of sunglasses came about in the late 1920s, when a man named Sam Foster started his company, Foster Grant, in Atlantic City where the beach goers were a steady stream of sunglass sales..

The Army Air Corps were at the forefront of sunglass development when they approached an optical firm by the name of Bausch and Lomb to create effective eyeglasses to protect pilots from high altitude glare. In the mid 1930s Polaroid filters had been invented by Edwin H. Land (founder of the Polaroid Corporation) which now changed sunglasses from being an item to keep out the sun but also to that of a health aid because they now also protected the eyes from harmful UV rays. By the late 1930s when World War II was on the brink of exploding, anti-glare aviator glasses were being made for the fliers and a year later the same sunglass technology was available for the general public.

By the 1960s, sunglasses rose in popularity as a stunning fashion statement. In the 1970s sales were still steadily climbing and many fashion designers and stars of stage and screen came out with their own designs and styles. Sunglasses are attractive, practical, and are now available in every imaginable shape, size, and color. They are even available for infants and seniors and every age group in between. They have come a long way from bits of emerald and smoked quartz held up to the eyes to the beautiful designs we see today.

It is quite clear that in todays fashion-conscious world, a woman cannot have just one pair of eye glasses or sunglasses. Rather, she needs an entire eye wear wardrobe so that her eye wear isnt out of step with her clothing choice for the day.

In case you feel you have few pairs of sunglasses and want to purchase at least one more you should know which styles are the trendiest for Spring/Summer 2009.Actually you have a wide choice as there are many styles you can select from.

These include: Ray-Ban Wayfarers, 70s style thick framed sunglasses, tortoise shell frames, gradient lens sunglasses, John Lennon-style round glasses, Aviators, oversized sunglasses, sunglasses with white or glitzy oversized frames and unusual “design glasses.Ray-Bans Wayfarers are an Urban Classic. Such sunglasses come in classic black, vintage bright colors, or new two-toned frame choices for the ultimate classic style.

Looks very interesting! The 70s style thicker frames have been popular for a few years already, but you have to be very careful when choosing exactly which retro-inspired glasses are appropriate for you. The problem is that you can choose a chic pair of retro sunglasses that you think are just the style, but end up buying a cheap knock-off, a design from a time period that isnt in right now, or even a pair that is completely out-of-place that will make you to be laughed at all the time you wear it.

Tortoise shell glasses are all still hot this year. They will probably go out of style soon, but this year they are with us. They have become classic already and can be worn with just everything! A good investment!

The gradient lens sunglasses are one of the latest trends in sunglasses. These sunglasses have a peculiarity not in a frame but in lenses. Having them half shaded from top to bottom youll immediately make your image modern and stylish. The round John Lennon style has only made a huge come back for women, so guys, you have to stay away from it. They look unusual and attract lots of attention, so, if you feel all right about being the focus of attention this style is just for you.

Rimless Aviators continue to be the staple pieces in fashionable eyewear and give us a sleek and modern look, besides, a wrap around style adds a suave flair. This is a decidedly sporty look, rather than a glamorous one.

Oversized sunglasses are the hottest trend for spring-summer time this year. Many designers have opted for this style in their collections and I think it looks fantastic! Massive jewelry, huge bags and at last oversized sunglasses ” why do people prefer big-sized accessories?

White-framed sunglasses are hot for Spring/Summer 2009 and are very retro and very cool. This is a frame color and the style that returns us back to the 1960s. I like the style and consider it perfect for the casual look.

Glitzy oversized-frames are a great contrast to almost-not-there frames we were so fond of some time ago. It surely draws much attention and you must be ready for that if you choose this style of sunglasses.

Big frames in a rainbow of colors, with rhinestones and gem type detailing create a very rich look of yours as soon as you put them on.Unusual-design sunglasses are the ones which have a detail or some details that make the sunglasses look different from the other common styles. The details allowing us to put the pair of sunglasses into this group include: patterns on the lenses, unusual shape of the frame, additional items attached to the frame, hanging pieces and others.is one more style that looks interesting and unusual ” sunglasses with the frame that goes above the lenses but is absent under them. Probably it looks a bit too sharp and crude but still rather attractive.

Well, dear Ladies, now you know what is hot for this season and its up to you what to choose, just opt for the sunglasses produced by famous companies because cheap imitations will look like a bad taste!

by salelm

As you know we have always talked about womens fashion but this post is something different ” its about men, men trends, to be precise.

Mens fashion is not so diverse as the ladies one but some trends should be taken into account to look fresh, chic and sophisticated. So, there they are: a few this seasons top fashion trends

Clean lines and shapes are very significant. Choose a crisp polo shirt to match some nicely pressed khakis.Classy cardigan is another good decision. All men should definitely own at least one basic cardigan as you can wear it all year round and its good for layering.

They are sharp and extremely nice-looking.Forget about browns and greys, they were in fashion in autumn. Now look for something that is much brighter: dark purple, red or indigo blue. Find a perfect shirt of these tints and pair it with black pants, youll look both classy and modern. If you like pinstripes, the fashion of this season is just for you. Select a pair of pinstripes pants with a pinstriped dress shirt to create a classy and taller image.

This season retro styles are extremely popular. If you like that, buy a couple of items coming in great colors and patterns, with funky lapels and elbow patches. Youll look irresistible.Khaki pants are still very popular but if you got tired of them, try out some twill flat front pants. These look magnificent and are great for any occasion, from work to dinner.Necktie is an item that will always be in vogue, though sometimes it may be worn less often. This winter ties have made a great comeback and are used to accessorize almost any style.Jeans became fashionable once and since that day their popularity is constantly growing. This years styles are more form fitting and straight cut. Dark blue is the best.

Pairing your jeans with a dress shirt (and a blazer too) will make you look slightly eccentric yet adorable. For casual wear choose a funky rock n roll t-shirt.Select a shirt that fits well and looks good. Number of accessories should be minimal, just a watch and a pair of good cufflinks will do.

That is all. Add a few pieces to your wardrobe this winter to look modern and trendy. Good luck!
