Description of the Process: The eye surgery process takes around fifteen minutes per eye: Your cornea is anaesthetised using eye drops.Your physician administers anaesthetic eye drops, and applies an instrument called a lid speculum to stop you from blinking. A corneal flap is created. The flap is made up of a slim layer of surface corneal tissue. The flap is gently hinged again across the cornea so as to expose the corneal ‘bed’.The corneal bed is re-shaped. Your physician employs an Excimer laser in order to re-contour the corneal bed specifically to your particular doctor prescribed requirements. The laser uses an ultraviolet light beam to specifically vaporise a pre- determined level of tissue throughout the cornea.The corneal flap is re-positioned. No sutures are required because the eye has natural suction capability that holds the flap secure. Antibiotic and anti- inflammatory eye drops are applied. An eye guard is applied to protect the eye while it is in recovery. Both eyes can be treated on the same day. Post-op Visual Recovery: Individuals can resume most activities on the day following surgical treatment. This is because the smoothness of the corneal surface is just minimally disrupted by the laser eye treatment. Post-op Ease and comfort: The eyes should feel fairly relaxed the day after procedure. This is because the topmost layer of the cornea is only minimally disturbed during the procedure.
