For most of us, we reach an age where everything seems hazy and we can’t focus as we once did. More and more we become aware that we’re always squinting in order to make out small things and read fine print. This will typically occur after we are reach our forties, although for some of us this takes place earlier and for some later in life. The medical term for this kind of short-sightedness is called presbyopia. It is brought on by the loss of elasticity of the eyeball, which develops an inability to bring near objects into focus.

Then again, there will be a couple of things you can do when challenged with this natural sign of get older. Quite a few people prefer to go to an eye doctor for a complete eye exam and to buy a pair of prescription reading glasses. Others go to the nearest drug or discount store and buy a pair of nonprescription reading glasses. Although more expensive, having your eyes examined by a professional is a good idea if it is something you haven’t done in the last few years. They will be able to verify the overall fitness of your eyes and make sure there aren’t any other problems affecting your eyes. Then you have to determine whether or not you really need the expensive prescription glasses or if the less expensive drugstore reading glasses are going to be just fine. When your eyes have other problems, like distance viewing, astigmatism, or different prescriptions for each eye, then it’s a smart idea to get prescription glasses. Then again, when all you need will be a little magnification of things up close then cheaper reading glasses might be just what you need. Given that these eyeglasses will be so affordable, you can even acquire multiple styles. Doing this will allow you to put a pair anywhere you will probably need them, or to acquire different styles and colors to blend with different clothes.

When selecting department store reading glasses it will be simple to discover the ones that will work best. Located on the glasses display there will usually be a chart that has a brief sentence in different type sizes. The only thing you have to do is stand 12 inches away from the chart and locate the first sentence that is hard to read. The appropriate magnification level to correct your eyesight is going to be shown next to the sentences. There are two main styles of over-the-counter reading glasses; half-glasses and full glasses. The first kind, half-glasses, are intended to ensure it is comfortable for a person to glance up while reading and see clearly far away. Full glasses should cover more of the eye and allow you to view more of the page while reading. If deciding on a pair of reading glasses it will be you should remember that they are rather economical, so it is reasonable experiment with different styles until you find which ones will suit you best.

Do you challenges seeing objects that are within arms reach? you may have hyperopia. But it may also be presbyopia. The truth of the matter is the vision is similar but the causes are very different. As such, they have different treatments as well.

Hyperopia, or farsightedness, occurs when the light rays that enter the eye do not focus directly on the retina, but in fact, they focus behind it. This is caused when the length of the eye itself is shorter than it should be. Hyperopia, similar to myopia, can occur at any age. Children sometimes outgrow this condition because their eyes grow as they do. But if they do not, hyperopia can be treated with corrective lenses, either glasses or contact lenses. For mild hyperopic corrections a pair of readers can offer better vision. Laser surgery, such as LASIK, is also an option.

Presbyopia has a similar visual effect in that people have trouble seeing clearly up close, but unlike hyperopia, it is age related. It is the result of the crystalline lens inside the eye hardening. The result is the same as hyperopia: poor near vision. Generally, this is treated with corrective lenses. reader glasses , used to clarify objects up close such as text or computer screens, are commonly used. A simple choice that many people opt for is called monovision, this is when one eye is corrected for near vision and the other for distance vision; contact lenses are usually used for this. People who use monovision are forced to adapt to this new way of seeing things up close and at at distance. Contact lenses can also be fit as progressive multifocals, similar to progressive channel eyeglasses.

Hyperopia only effects some and it is possible to treat it with surgery. the condition of presbyopia will eventually effect us all, but until very recently was not treated with surgery. When eyes begin to lose flexibility and are no longer to see crisply and clearly close up, it is time for treatment. Even though there are surgical options available for presbyopia, the majority of people still choose a simple pair of readers. They are a safe, stylish option that anyone can use. If you are suffering from presbyopia and you need to wear readers, you may as well find a pair that looks good too.

Trifocals are a type of reading glass. Unlike bifocals, trifocals will have three segments of vision correctio; near, intermediate, and distance vision. At first it may sound difficult to get used to a lined pair of eyeglasses, but most people find them pretty easy to adapt to. Trifocals will offer more visual convenience than bifocals after you have adjusted to them. Think about climbing. It’s easier to reach step three via step two and not directly from step one. The three areas of correction are designed ot reduce strain and relax your eyes into clear visoin.

In most cases, an eye doctor will prescribe trifocals for people with advanced presbyopia. This is because more advanced presbyoes benefit from a multiple range of corrections. Your eyeglass refraction, also referred to as spectacle Rx, is determined during your eye exam. Optical corrections are measured in diopters.

As suggested by the name, bifocal lenses will correct vision in only two areas, usually near and distance vision. Trifocals will correct your vision at multiple varying points. Because of this, trifocals is the optimal choice in clarity for a majority of advanced presbyopes.

Trifocals are designed for those who already where eyeglasses and now need extra correction for nead and mid range. Trifocals do not become necessary until presbyopia becomes more advanced, usually after 55 years of age. While not overly challenging to adapt to, the intermediate segment of vision is what takes the most getting used to. A spectacle Rx of -4 diopters with a reading add of +3 will produce a reading segment of -1. The mid-range or intermediate correction will be a -2.5.

o Even a lay person can understand why you get distinctly better vision with trifocals rather than bifocals. These lenses will provide all three areas of vision correction.

The lower portion of the lens will contain the near vision so all you have to do is glance down to see clearly at near. Lined lenses come in a variety of shapes, from flat top to crescent, your optician will help you find the right lens style based on your daily activities. The varying segments of the lens are clearly marked with a very thin, yet visible line.

The full add power, which corrects the closest near vision, is on the base of the lens. When fit properly any of these eyeglasses are very easy to adapt to.

The section that corrects intemediate vision is directly above the full near vision correction. It does not cover a great range of distance, intermediate is considered computer distance vision.

One pair of trifocals is often all an advanced presbyope needs to read, work, and enjoy good vision. You may find yourself unsatisfied with the line markings that split the varying optical areas of the lenses. If this sounds like you, you may love progressive eyeglasses. They will work just as well and sometimes better than either trifocals or bifocals. Progressive lenses are the best option for those that do not like the line look within their glasses. They will provide the best clarity and comfort to anybody who is suffering through presbyopia.
