Appraising your PD:

This measurement is the distance between the centre of your pupils that is measured in millimetres.

Opticians do not tend to give out this measurement as it encourages patients to buy their spectacles from them whereas you can buy cheap spectacles online or designer glasses at a fraction of the price online. It is commonly noted as one measurement like 60 (60mm) but could also be registered as R 29 L 31. Originally, the strength of a person’s reading spectacles were mainly based on that man’s age. Hence a man of about 30 would be given lenses with 2 degrees of strength and a person of about 70, given, roughly, 4 degrees. Around the middle of the 1800s eyeglasses were being sold by knowledgeable students of optics.

It is remarkable that in our present scientific age, when the appropriate corrective lenses can be prescribed on the basis of precise measurement of refractive errors, some people still choose their own reading specs at the chemist’s shop.  Read more... For most of us, we have had a headache at some time in our lives. All The Same, there are many of us in America that also have to live with the spectre of migraine headaches. Some of us also have migraines on a weekly basis. The thing about migraines that non migraine sufferers don’t get is that they drive you into a place in which you cannot operate effectively, don’t want to speak to anyone and can’t really live at all.  Read more... Designer shades are a definite fashion accessory for both the fashionably famous as well as the rest of us. Whether they use it to hide the excesses of the night before or to not be spotted when walking down the road, stylish shades are the must have item for the celebrity. Styles come and styles go, but a top pair of sunglasses will remain a la mode.

With the summer barely around the corner, we have commenced our style drift detection attempts for 2009. Like years gone by, celebrities are along the vanguard of eyewear style. Among my favourite pursuits is to watch the style drifts of my favourite famous people. As with last season, big sunglasses are completely the craze for the dames.  Read more... Most online spectacle sellers are genuine. However, if you find one that claims to be selling 100% scratch resistant prescription glasses, then run a mile as they are lying to you. There is no such product available.

It is true to say that the specially coated, plastic lenses are often more resistant to light scratches when compared with glasss lenses, it is not valid to offer you a guarantee as no commercially viable lens is completely scratch proof.  Read more... (577 words, estimated 2:18 mins reading time)
